Interventional Oncology & Access
Our Interventional Oncology and Access Center supports patients living with cancer, end-stage renal disease and chronic conditions by providing both targeted treatments and reliable access for chemotherapy, dialysis and long-term medications. From biopsies to safe placements of ports, catheters, and PICC lines, our minimally invasive, image-guided techniques help patients receive effective long-term treatment with greater comfort with improved outcomes through every stage of their care.
Biopsy Procedures: A biopsy involves taking a small sample of tissue or cells from an organ, mass, or abnormal area in the body to help diagnose or rule out certain conditions. Using advanced image-guidance, we precisely target the area of concern, ensuring accuracy while minimizing discomfort. Most procedures are done under local anesthesia, and patients can return home the same day.
Catheter Management: Catheters, ports, and PICC lines provide a safe and reliable way to receive ongoing treatments without the need for frequent needle sticks. These devices are commonly used for long-term intravenous medications, chemotherapy, dialysis, nutrition support, blood draws, and other therapies that require consistent access to the bloodstream. They also help patients who have difficulty swallowing or require specialized medical care.
In addition, we offer procedures designed to manage common cancer-related complications and improve comfort, including:
Paracentesis: A minimally invasive procedure that removes excess fluid (ascites) from the abdominal cavity, often caused by liver disease, cancer, or other conditions. This helps relieve symptoms such as abdominal swelling, discomfort, and shortness of breath.
Thoracentesis: A procedure used to drain excess fluid (pleural effusion) from around the lungs, which can develop as a result of cancer, infection, or heart and lung disease. Removing this fluid can significantly improve breathing and reduce chest pressure.
Through these services, our Interventional Oncology & Catheter Management team provides comprehensive, patient-centered care — improving quality of life, supporting ongoing treatment, and helping patients maintain comfort and dignity throughout their care journey.
